What a cool hobby Wilson Bentley had! His mom convinced Wilson's dad to buy him the equipment needed to pursue his hobby--photographing snowflakes--after his farm chores were done in Jericho, VT, in the late 1800s. No two students are alike--just like the snowflakes. They will enjoy pursuing information from various websites featuring this eccentric hobbyist, which will help polish their research skills for high school research projects. As a former Vermonter, I went by the site of the historical museum many times, and you and your students may take a virtual tour, too!
A rubric is contained at the end of this short power point, which can be saved on classroom and library computers, thus saving paper. The end product will be a WORD document containing answers obtained during the webquest, and pictures of public domain snowflakes, taken by this pioneer of photomicrography.
