By creating paper snowflakes and using chalk and brushes, students can make a composition with negative space. This lesson plan can last one or two class periods, and it describes how to those simple materials to teach the concept of negative space. It is a messy project, so only do it with students mature enough not to color on themselves!
This project is fun to do in the winter, especially around the holidays.
