This is a fun holiday think tank that focuses on states of matter, changes in matter, solutions and the freezing and boiling points of water. It includes a teacher info page, student instructions, reading material, a graphic organizer, a hands on Borax crystal lab, and extra activities for when students finish.
Think tanks are designed to take 3-4 45-60 minute sessions to complete in groups of 2-4 students. We use them as activities for the majority of the class as the teacher is facilitating a small group. They are designed to be student led without any teacher interaction during this time. I wrote them with specific reading in mind, but they work with any reading that centers around the skill to focus on. Each think tank follows the same path: read, recall, create and extend. I like to keep all the supplies in a tub for each think tank so students can easily pull them out and use them. I hope you enjoy it!
