Here's a super-fun way to practice place value.

If your students are like mine, they will absolutely LOVE making a place value snow pal.

Teacher Comments: "Kids loved putting these together and didn’t even realize that they were practicing math skills. Love it!"

"Loved the way this craft incorporates place value in a creative and fun way. The kiddos loved creating their snowman!"

Because my kiddos enjoy this activity so much, I always run off "extra stuff" because many of them ask to make additional snowmen! Woo Hoo.

The beauty of this "mathtivity" is that it's simple enough for younger students studying 2-digit numbers, but also for those working on 3-digit numbers, as well as challenging enough for students practicing place value for 4-digit numbers; which makes it super-simple to diversify your lessons, with everyone still working on the same activity.

There are worksheets for all 3 levels, which makes it appropriate for a variety of grades.

Simply print the worksheet filled with an assortment of place value blocks.

Students decide which pieces they want to use to decorate their place value snowman with, then color, cut and glue them to the pattern.

Afterwards, using 3 worksheet options, they figure out the value of their snowman.

OR... students can do the reverse; choosing a number and then designing their snowman accordingly.

Be sure & check the PREVIEW for lots of samples.

Teacher Comment: "Terrific and fun resource for hands-on activity when learning place value and expanded form!"

Completed projects make an awesome bulletin board or hallway display.

We always get a ton of compliments on ours, which is a real self-esteem builder.

I've included 2 posters to add some extra pizzazz to your display.

Teacher Comments:

"These were super cute hanging in the hall! I received many compliments!"

"What a great activity to review place value skills with a winter theme. Looks great on my bulletin board!"

I've also included several additional math extensions you can do as a whole group activity, or students can do individually, with a partner, or in a small group.

I'm Diane from Teach With Me, wishing you a wonderful winter.
