Product Description
This winter activity unit will have kids responding to wanted or missing snowman posters. Children read, color and respond to the snowman in a friendly letter format. Children tell the children the right behavior. Behavior address the most common behaviors in the classroom. Children also practice writing compound words, compound sentences, descriptive writing, technique reading as they read and do while making a snowflake for recycled materials. A class snowman graph and recording sheet is included along with mat mats and a snow globe math activity.


Compound snow words (whole group or use as a center/word work)
Reading for Details: Students read cards and match the card to the correct picture using details in the reading passage.

Friendly Letter: Students read posters about snowmen then color the snowman to match the description then they have to respond by writing to the snowman in a friendly letter format. Some of the posters address common classroom behaviors we are constantly revisiting as teachers so students have to tell the snowman how to behave!

Compound Sentences using the conjunction and: Students use vocabulary cards to write compound sentences. Simple sentence format is also provided to meet your students needs.

Writing and grammar assessment with real life application: Students create a missing snowman poster using the 2 graphic organizers provided. Create a display using their writing and the student designed snowmen. Students have to figure out which snowman belongs to which poster.

Informational Text: Student read and do book provides examples for non-fiction text features. Students create a snowflake ornament using the pictures, labels, and instructions. The pictures alone are almost enough for students. Reading with a purpose!

Measurement: Students use a ruler when making their ornament giving this assignment the relevance and application component.
