In this pack, you will find an idea for a writing activity along with templates to create a snowman to help showcase your student’s writing. I’ve also included some planning pages for you to use if you wish.
For the templates, I generally print them on cardstock. I try to make
at least 6 for my class for each piece (hat, nose, etc). Then, I leave
them on a table for my kids to use as they are ready, but it helps to
have the extras so more than one student can use them at a time. I
also provide many different colors of pre-cut sizes of construction
paper This can help alleviate the waste. I also find it helpful to have a parent helper in the classroom to assist during this project, but it can be done alone if your kids are great at following directions.
For this activity, I had the kids write paragraphs describing the steps
involved in building a snowman. Some years, I have also had students actually build a snowman outside, then come in and write down the steps. This can be really helpful, but isn’t absolutely necessary. For the planning pages, I offered many different styles depending on what you like or the grade you teach. You can also do another type of writing that isn’t a paragraph. For the writing template pages, I cut them in half and give the kids a choice as to which one they want (horizontal or vertical).
Have fun crafting!! Michelle
