This is a book that I wrote about teaching upper elementary school, particularly grades 4-6. I taught two years of kindergarten and a partial year of first grade before being unexpectedly moved to sixth grade! I was panic stricken! Since then I have taught a year of sixth and now I'm into my 7th year teaching 5th grade! I wanted to create the guideline and informational tips that I wish I would have had back then. I've included many tips, wisdom that I've gained through the years, common mistakes to avoid that I've seen other teachers make (including me), tips on how to build relationships with students and parents, classroom management, how to set up your room, and tips for teaching reading and math in the upper grades for success. I've included a "good note home" that I've mentioned in my book, as well as class roster and list of websites, list of great read alouds and books for literature circles. This guide will help you get focused and centered since you found out you are teaching "the big kids" and give you many strategies for getting your year started right! I've also included some great, tried and true, activities for the first week of school that are fun and helpful for you to gain information about your new students! I've included cute fonts and clipart. This is ideal for a brand new teacher, or new teacher to the upper grades. PDF, and you may copy!
