It happens to the best of us. We need a day off because we’re sick, one of our children is sick, or we have a temporary duty elsewhere, or a field trip… really, there is any number of reasons we cannot be in the classroom on any given day.
We then have to give our students over to a stranger, a substitute teacher! In many schools, the word “substitute” is a dirty word. The students see it as a free day, the teachers next to your classroom are annoyed by the overabundance of disruptions from your classroom because your normally well-behaved students are causing a ruckus.
There are many ways you can help the substitute and your class have a great day in your absence.
