Description

****UPDATED to include a Google Slides™ version as well as a Microsoft version for OneDrive™.

Social-Emotional Learning is more important than ever and having quality lesson plans and activities makes it so much easier to build into your curriculum. These units were developed to support YOU in teaching, modeling and reinforcing great character. This resource focuses on CONFLICT RESOLUTION and is part of a year-long social-emotional curriculum. This resource can be used as a stand-alone resource or in conjunction with the other units.

This packet includes many activities and lessons to teach your students how to solve conflicts appropriately.

Lesson 1- What Are Conflicts?

Your class will discuss and define conflicts and resolutions. Then you'll work together to come up with solutions for common problems that happen at school and at home. After working together to solve conflicts, students will create a flipbook that tells about a time they solved a conflict and how they solved it.

Lesson 2-How Can I Share My Feelings with Others?

In this lesson, your students will use sentence stems to practice expressing themselves respectfully. You'll create a chart together that students can reference when they need to tell someone that they don't like what is happening. Young students NEED to know how to express themselves so that situations can be handled before they escalate. Many of our kiddos don't have the language necessary, so this resource provides them with stems they can use again and again. Then students will complete a simple recording sheet to practice using the sentence stems.

Lesson 3-What Are Some Different Resolution Strategies?

Your class will watch short videos about characters that use various strategies to solve their conflicts. Then you'll work together to discuss and create a chart that shows different strategies students can use to solve conflicts (taking turns, playing rock-paper-scissors, taking a break, etc). You'll also show your students Super Solver awards that you want to hand out to students who work together to solve problems! It's a simple but effective way to promote conflict resolution in the classroom!

Lesson 4-How Do Friends Give Apologies?

Your class will discuss what it means to apologize and you'll help your students understand that apologies should be followed by action! Your students will practice giving apologies and asking, "how can I make it better?" Then you'll use a popular read-aloud to give examples of apologies and how to use them correctly. After this lesson, your students will be able to give apologies and also understand that an apology means they will try to do better next time. :)
