This packet includes many activities and lessons to teach your students all about giving back. It is project based and guides you through a charity project that your class can work on together! It includes 4 lesson plans, but your project could take more time depending on what you choose to do! :) Here is a breakdown of the lessons! :)
Lesson 1-What Does It Mean To Give Back?
Your class will read a fabulous picture book about a little girl who gives back and watches as her act of kindness travels across the whole world! Your students will reflect on the story and discuss WHY we give back and HOW we can give back like the girl in the story. Then students will draw and write about a way they want to give back. After the lesson, you'll look at the project ideas and think of a few choices to offer students in the following lesson.
Lesson 2-How Do We Want To Give Back?
Based on the ideas your students had in the previous lesson you will give your class a few project choices to choose from. You'll choose a few that would work for your classroom, but allow your class to vote on the perfect project for them. :) I have included a TON of resources, links, and ideas for possible projects to complete. After choosing a project, your class will come up with 4-5 action steps for the project.
Lesson 3-Work Days
This lesson provides an easy structure and discussion for having your students work to complete the project. Some projects, like making cards for veterans, could be completed in one setting. Other projects, like collecting coats for a coat drive, would take several weeks and students can work on advertising it, collecting donations, etc.
Lesson 4-How Does It Feel To Give Back?
After completing your class charity project, your students will complete a reflection journal about it. They'll draw and write about their feelings throughout the project and something they would like to do in the future.
