After several years in the classroom, I realized that my students needed instruction on HOW to be kind, respectful, and all the things I was asking them to be. I developed these units to support teachers in teaching and rewarding great character in the classroom! Building a classroom community is one of the most important things teachers can do and it greatly impacts our students academically! This unit on HONESTY is part of a year-long curriculum for teaching students how to have great character! However, this unit could also be used as a stand-alone resource for teaching all about honesty in the classroom. :)
This unit is part of a BUNDLE that includes TEN units on character education at a discounted price.
Lesson 1-What Does It Mean To Be Honest?
After reading a picture book together, students will discuss what it means to be honest and dishonest. You'll work together to create an anchor chart about honesty and what it looks like in our lives. Finally, students will draw and write about honesty.
Lesson 2-Is It Honest?
After a quick discussion about honesty, students will work together to sort scenarios by honest and dishonest. You'll discuss things like lying about homework, taking things that don't belong to you, and telling a story to get out of trouble. After your discussion, students will draw and write about being honest in various situations.
Lesson 3-What Happens When We're Dishonest?
After watching a quick video, you'll play a fun trick on your students to show the value of trust and how easy it is to lose. Using frozen peas and a common building game, you'll provide students with concrete experiences about honesty.
Lesson 4-Does It Need to Be Said
After spending several weeks focusing on honesty, you'll spend the last lesson talking about keeping some things in our brains. We want students to understand you can be honest without saying everything you think or feel. You'll work as a class to sort scenarios by "Say It Out loud" and "Just Think It" and then students will complete a sort by themselves.
