Why Teach Social-Emotional Skills

Social and emotional skills are the critical skills that help individuals develop a sense of self, improve confidence, understand emotions, develop positive relationships with others, improve social skills, strengthen decision-making skills, and much more. Several research studies have shown the positive impact social and emotional learning can have on kids and young adults.

It’s important to note that SEL is not just one activity or task. It is a process that helps kids and young adults acquire these skills and abilities over time. These cards can become a path to help you begin discussion with each of these skills.

How to Use the Task Cards

You can also choose to have "centers" by putting a set of cards in each center and having groups move around to discuss and answer questions. It is best to partner students in need up with peer role models. Regular education teachers, special education teachers, and other support professionals could all benefit from using these task cards with their students.

Note that both color and black/white options are included!
