Description
Looking for how to integrate social and emotional learning (SEL) into your class? Mindfulness helps students learn how to recognize and manage their thoughts and feelings, helping them to be happier and healthier students. In this social and emotional (SEL), mindfulness lesson, students will learn why taking tests can be difficult and how to calm their minds down before and during a test. Students will then practice doing an exercise to help them be more mindful during a test. Finally, they can reflect on what mindfulness is in their student journal. The student journal is in a paper and digital format.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which individuals learn and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, become self-aware, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Research shows that students who learn mindfulness have increased attention spans and are more likely to be better adjusted, have more positive social behaviors and peer relationships, have fewer conduct problems, show less emotional distress, and are able to improve grades and test scores.
