This year, I decided to “do away with” traditional morning work. My kiddos spend their time creating with STEAM bins (we try to squeeze it in when they can).
I love morning time with the littles, but when 28 of them all enter with something exciting they need to share, it can be a *tad* overwhelming. I whipped this up as a QUICK and easy solution.
Students come in, unpack, fill out one of these (which is already sitting on their desks), and turn them in before starting their STEAM activity. This way, they can ”get anything off their chests” they feel like they need to, and I can also learn about how students’ moods may impact their behavior and performance within the classroom.
Because students write the date on the paper, this would also be useful to use for students who were being monitored more closely for another data point.
I print pages 3-4 back to front and use them as half-sheets. You could do the same with pages 6-7. There are whole-sheet versions available as well (pages 5 and 8), in addition to a modified version with handwriting lines where students can also draw about their feelings, too.
If your students have one-to-one technology, you could also consider staying green and using a similar system, digitally!
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions!
