Meet Professor Cranium! He's here to teach you social skills and this week he's focusing on Social Filters! This packet features multi-modal instruction for Social Filters including an instruction booklet, 3 different practice activities, voting cards, bracelets, desk visuals, homework, awards, and links to related social videos on YouTube.
My Social Filter Lesson. Pages 3-13. Print the pages to create an instructional book on social filters. You can print 2 pages per sheet if you prefer a smaller book.
Student strips. Page 14. Print and laminate these strips. You can use them on each student’s desk or as a bracelet worn on the wrist.
Voting Cards. Page 15. Cut out each circle. Glue circles back-to-back so there is one brain and one mouth attached. Attach the circles to a tongue depressor. Use them as voting sticks during card games.
Think or Say Game. Pages 16-20. Print and laminate the think and say game. Read each scenario and decide if that is a thought you should say aloud or just keep to yourself.
Fix and Say. Pages 21-25. Print and laminate the fix and say cards. Read the statement and determine how you can rephrase it to keep your listener’s feelings in mind.
Practice Photos. Pages 26-30. Have each student pull a photo and determine what things they could comment on aloud and what things they should keep to themselves. Sometimes we don’t need to share all our observations about people!
Extra page. Page 31. Make your own cards.
Social Videos. Page 32. Use these two recommended videos as part of your instruction.
Homework Page. Page 33. Send this page home with your student as homework.
Award. Page 34. Use this page to demonstrate completion of the unit.
THe packet was developed for kids in grades 3-7, but could be altered depending on your students needs.
