Emoji Match Up is a fun and engaging way to teach kids about the abstract world of emotions. This activity will help you bridge the gap between your students love of technology and the real world of emotions!
Using emojis helps to get the student’s attention no matter how old they may be. The younger kids want to be like the older kids and use emojis. The older kids use emojis as part of their interactions everyday. However, all students with social communication disorders have difficulty identifying and interpreting emotions in their selves and in others. This is the first step you will teach before your students learn to interpret body language. Be sure the students understand there are different ranges of emotions other than the “basic 4” (happy, sad, mad, and scared), then you can teach them to interpret what other people may be feeling.
This product contains Emoji Emotion Cards for 24 different emotions. The large cards are for teaching the emotion. After you have discussed and reviewed the emojis and emotions, you can easily extend your teaching by playing a match up game. There are several ways to play it explained before the section.
The cards have 4 different level cues so this game can be quickly modified according to your group level or cognitive level of your students. There are also carryover activities that may be sent home for practice or used as an additional activity in groups or therapy sessions.
This is a great companion to the Social Butterflies Club Social Skills Program for Red and Green level groups as well as the Zones of Regulation program by Leah Kupers OTR/L. As well as the FREE resource Life Lesson Story "Sometimes I Feel Scared".
