This activity has two parts; it was designed around two grade eight outcomes. However, I use the same activity in my grade eight and nine classes.
The first activity asks students to depict a social statement as a large project. Students can choose any medium and any social issue that speaks to them. I have included examples in the slides.
The second activity has students respond to three social issue pieces. The first piece of art represents racism, the second represents corrupt politicians/governments and the third represents child soldiers. Students are asked to analyze the work of art and respond with work of their own. I have them complete this assignment in their drawing books. They usually get one period per response.
Rubrics have been included for all assignments and activities.
This package has everything you need to teach these outcomes in grade eight/nine art. If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to send me a message!
