In this lesson, students will embark on an exciting journey to explore the concept of identity. Identity is explained as “the story of who we are”. Who we are is made up of the things we think, say and do, but it is also influenced by more abstract notions such as race (skin color). This lesson will approach the topic of race (skin color) as an important piece of our identity that should be acknowledged and celebrated. It is designed to present students with opportunities to reflect on their individual racial identity and the racial identities of others, while also establishing a framework that facilitates the discussion of increasingly difficult topics and conversations.
