Description
Looking for an engaging social justice literature circle unit? Teach the Black Lives Matter movement, engage students in social justice issues, and encourage collaboration through lit circles with this Black Lives Matter-themed Social Justice Literature Circle Unit Bundle--online or in person!
This social justice literature circle includes material for teaching The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely.
This bundle also includes a social justice speech project plus supplementary materials like a social justice graphic organizer and a worksheet for Netflix's "13th" film.
Students will choose one of the three novels to read as well as a social justice topic for an end-of-unit speech project. During the 5-week reading phase, students will read their chosen novel, work on novel-specific activities, and meet with their groups. They will also research and outline their final speeches.
After finishing their books, they will engage in a final discussion with their group's about the books' fundamental themes and present their social justice speech.
Students will all work on materials tailored to their specific novels, but teachers can keep their grade books the same for each student!
The assignments for each novel are carefully aligned and created so that each is unique to the book, but teachers can keep their grade books aligned. For example, there are 5 quizzes, 5 sets of reading questions, 5 writing prompts within the reading journals, etc.
Every resource included is printable and digital! Teach this lit circle unit with in-person, virtual, or hybrid learning!
