Students will understand the relationship between slope and incarceration through slope and y-intercept. They will look at the graph, calculate the slopes for both crime and incarceration, construct the equations for these relationships and interpret slope and y-intercept in context.

Students will also brainstorm why the relationship is the way it is.

Possible extensions: Use the equations to make predictions and practice. Students can put information on a poster and do presentations. Students can do research on what the relationship/data is now.
