The lessons in this bundle are a Social Justice Unit based on the Civil Rights Movement. It comprehensively combines social studies and language arts for teachers to provide students with a well-rounded, standards-based education. The purpose of the unit is to provide teachers with common core aligned lessons and strategies that teach social awareness and literacy. The lessons in this book are based on key characters and events of the civil rights movement. Teachers can use all lessons to teach students to be socially conscious while at the same time building their literacy skills.
Teachers can teach this unit sequentially or choose only specific lessons that supplement the school curriculum. The unit can be taught comprehensively in 4-6 weeks. OR individual lessons can be taught in 3-5 days. For example, Social Studies teachers can use specific lessons as an extension to a core theme.
