Can hashtags (#) be used in the classroom to plan and organize elements of narrative writing? Most students are familiar with using hashtags in Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to organize idea, trends, and subjects. This resource and tool uses this same concept to help students to build narratives and analyze stories.
Students use narrative element cards and graphic organizers tied together with hashtags to create narratives. This creates a modular-like system in which different story elements can be mixed and matched, shared, or categorized to be used in a variety collaborative classroom settings.
Students will create a bank of characters, settings, and major parts of Plot.
Students will then create a rough draft of their narrative using the Social Media Graphic Organizer.
Students can work on adding dialogue and more detailed scenes using the Twitter Dialogue Creator and the Instagram Scene Generator.
Hashtags are used to connect all the elements throughout the process and help students identify and apply story elements.
