This is a social story I created to help one of my students understand different expectations of social language and behavior for teachers and students. I've found it's difficult for many students with special needs to use socially appropriate language and behavior because they are following teacher models all day with no direct instruction on how their role as a student is different than that of a teacher. This is why we see students prompting each other and staff with fill-ins or questions they know the answers to. In this particular student's case, she gives directions and comes off incredibly bossy and disrespectful. However, she hears directions given all day in class, and doesn't realize that it is not intended to be a social model for her. Reading this story consistently has helped her decrease some of that behavior and understand the different roles.
