Some students have a difficult time dealing with things they cannot control. At school, there are many things that students just have to do because they are students and there are rules. Some students do not understand these concepts. This social story introduces the idea of SOCIAL CONVENTIONS - really a term for generally accepted social and school rules. The whole idea that you don't have to like a social convention but you have to abide by it allows students to feel more in control...It graphically explains things within your control and not within your control. Arguing, in particular, is explained within this framework as this tends to be a tricky area for many older students. Lastly there is a problem solving worksheet that allows a student and teacher to process through a social issue. Great for students on the autism spectrum.
