Use these 20 role play cards with color photos to help students initiate, maintain and terminate conversations with new friends.
The teacher/clinician can use the information on the cards to start the topic of conversation and improvise the rest of the conversation according to the student’s response. During the conversation the student can work toward staying on topic, using organized sentences, and using perspective taking skills.
After the role play, target memory/recall skills by asking the student to answer wh questions about the conversation.
Additionally, the teacher/clinician can re-introduce the card after a delay for a follow up conversation in which the student needs to ask questions and make appropriate comments based on the information discussed in the first role play.
Print out and give to parents for home practice.
