Living with a person who has dementia can be especially difficult to understand for young children and teenagers.

The best way to overcome any anxiety or fears is to become educated on the symptoms and treatments of dementia in order to support any and all who may be affected by it.

This activity resource has been inspired by two things, my own experience with the ups and downs of friends and family who have dementia and understanding the challenges of finding quality options and support for caregivers as well as those affected by dementia.

Students will:

  • Read and Annotate Informational Text about Dementia
  • Re-READ, THINK and answer questions with Depth and Complexity
  • Create a Memory Journal (You will need the book titled, Wilfrid, Gordan, Mcdonald Partridge by, Mem Fox for this activity only)
  • Complete a Memory Quote Dropdown Puzzle
  • BONUS: Writing Prompt and Paper | Write about a Messy Memory
  • 1+ Hour Activity (Can be taught all at once or separately. Works well for group or independent work or centers)
  • Grades 5-7
