This activity is intended to be used in conjunction with The Creative SLP's other social pragmatic curriculum activities and resources. After students become familiar with the social skills categories: Nonverbal Language, Rules of Conversation, Tone of Voice, Common Courtesies, and Friendship, the students can express their creative minds by writing their very own commercial to help advertise a fictional teen social skills helpline. Students will take turns playing roles as operators giving advice and as teen callers asking for advice to deal with social skills situations. This packet includes 9 based-on-real-life social situations that teens face in the school environment. This creative activity will have your students so engaged and active they won't even realize they're learning!
If you don't have access to video cameras or video software (iMovie, etc), you can still use this activity to role play and act out the situations, having students take turns as operators and callers.
Microsoft Word, iMovie, and Comic Life are all programs that I use with this activity. I have my students film and edit the commercial and then show the final products to parents once finished. You can even use the commercial video to help teach future students! Please feel free to contact The Creative SLP with any questions or comments.
