Description

Comic Strip Social Stories will help your students learn social skills in a fun, comic strip format that they will remember and apply! My students need pictures and role play to get the messages of social rules down pat. They also LOVE comic strips (Avengers, anime, etc.).

On October 30, 2016, Carron F. said:

"This is one of the BEST bundles for social skills I have ever seen!!! I teach ESE 6-8th grade and I am using your materials in an interactive notebook. My students love the comic format! AWESOME PACKET!!!!!"

Evidenced Based

According to the Autism Spectrum Institute, 2008: "Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have trouble interpreting social situations and understanding speech as quickly as most social interactions require. A comic strip conversation is a conversation between two or more people using simple illustrations in a comic strip format. They show children how to behave in a socially acceptable manner and conform to social standards. The effectiveness can be enhanced by incorporating a child's favorite cartoon character into the illustration."

It is my hope that you will read these examples, explain them to your students, and then create personal comic strip social stories for your students. Please know your audience and who you intend these social stories for. This unit will assist you with writing personalized comic strip social stories for your students.

You can print these in black and white or in color. Special thanks to Smarty Symbols for the clip art. I print mine on regular copy paper and place them in my student work folders (three ring paper folders). We go over them, role play them and talk about the solution to the problem. We think about how the people are feeling in the story and what they may be thinking.
