This social story is a great read for students who may need some support and help to understand that it's ok that it's not their birthday, how it may make them feel and how they can help to celebrate other people's birthdays.
Many students with autism are visual learners and like to learn through seeing something in action. This book comes complete with matching, simple yet engaging graphics to help describe what is being said on the page.
Comes in col option only - no b/w availability, however you can print in grayscale.
Pages included are;
♦ Today is someone else’s birthday.
♦ This is because they were born on this day, many years ago.
♦ We celebrate birthdays because it means we have grown one year older.
♦ I like it when it is my birthday and everyone sings to me.
♦ I like it when it is my birthday and I get cards and presents.
♦ I like when it’s my birthday because I get a birthday cake and party.
♦ When it’s someone else’s birthday I may feel jealous.
♦ I may feel jealous when someone else gets a party.
♦ I may want to take their cards or presents.
♦ Feeling jealous is ok. But, I shouldn’t be mean or steal things.
♦ If I am feeling jealous or angry, I can take a break.
♦ If I am feeling left out, I can take a break.
♦ I can join in with some games.
♦ I like it when people come to my party, so I should go to my friends party.
♦ I like it when people sing me happy birthday, so I will sing to my friend.
♦ I like getting cards and presents, so I can get these for my friends.
♦ This will make me a good friend.
♦ Even though its not my birthday, I can still enjoy and have lots of fun.
♦ Soon, it will be my birthday.
