Listening to instruction is NOT a passive activity. Students must be taught to engage in the instruction. For many children, ACTIVE LISTENING does not come naturally. They daydream, or are easily distracted. They don't ask questions. They make off topic comments. Taking some time to teach Active Listening is time well spent.
Social stories are an entertaining format that children can relate to. They are a great way to introduce a topic. These stories state the problem, why it's a problem, AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!
Print and fold this Little Book as many times as you like (Folding instructions included). Send a copy home so parents can read it with their child and reinforce your efforts in school.
If a copy is damaged, print another. Collect an assortment of these little social story books and allow your students to read the books whenever they like.
You can even LAMINATE the books so they will survive even the most challenging students! (See the FAQ included for hints on how to do this.)
