The following is a Formative Assessment designed for a Sociology class when teaching and reviewing the sociological terms of Status and Roles during the Social Structure unit of study.
This assessment has two parts.
The first part lists 14 different Status' and instructs the students to label each status as either "Ascribed Status" and "Achieved Status".
The second part provides students with 8 different "Roles" (behaviors) various Status' are carrying out. Students must read each scenario, identify the "Role" (behavior) as either a "Right" or and "Obligation".
Through completion of both parts of the activity, students will demonstrate their mastery and understanding of the concepts as well as help them reinforce and apply the terms to real world scenarios versus just definitions. The teacher will be able to understand which students are at mastery level and which students may need some remedial help and assists teacher in planning future lessons.
I usually teach the terms and concepts using my "Social Structure PPT" (which is available for purchase in my TPT store) then I use this Formative Assessment after.
