Westward Expansion Simulation Game
High Student Engagement!
↝Students will learn what it's like for 19th century settlers to travel west. Everything in this game is researched and based on fact. They will be so engaged they won't even know they are learning! :)
This game is ready to go- just print and you are ready. Two different options: print one small game board that requires no assembly. Or, print four pages and assemble a big game board. The big game board is the perfect size for math tiles- I used the tiles for game pieces.
✎ Common Core Standard:
GLE 2: The historical eras, individuals, groups, ideas and themes in Colorado history and their relationships to key events in the United States
➨ Describe interactions among people and cultures
✎ This lesson is an interactive and fun way to learn about Westward Expansion. The key was the discussion after the game. We used thinking maps to go deeper with our understanding. It was great!
✎ There are 48 different cards. Each card has a scenario. Each scenario is based on facts. Students will learn about what the settlers ate, how they lived, and the dangers they encountered. They love the decision cards and reading the different scenarios to each other. My principal even came and did an observation and absolutely loved it!
✎ Hopefully this is something that will make history fun and exciting for your students!
