Product Description

This editable assignment gets students to explore the 5 typologies or foundations of Social Studies through images and pictures.

Society-Culture, Politics, Economics, Geography, Technology

They are asked to explore images in books, magazines, and newspapers (or internet if you wish) and find an image that links to each typology. They need to describe the image and provide source information.

I've included the notes/definitions of the typologies on the last page. These should be discussed with the students. I usually put them on the overhead and ask students to provide examples of things that would fit under each category. For example, their cell phones would fit under technology; a hurricane would likely go under geography.

This is a good way to start building the foundations of what Social Studies is all about. And students often like looking at pictures!
