This is an add-on pack to another product I have. Whether you are already using my interactive social studies notebooks or you plan to start using them, I think you will love having this new add-on pack to notebooks 1 and 2. This add-on pack of US history themed activities works in combination with my interactive notebook bundle that can be found here: Click HERE for the notebooks 1-2 Bundle.

VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!..In order to use the activities in this pack, you will need to purchase my notebooks #1-2.

This description includes lots of info. Thank you for taking the time to read this information carefully. If there is something you don’t understand, PLEASE take a moment to ask me your questions. If you need me to clarify something, please ask BEFORE you buy, and I will answer. I can usually answer quickly. I am here to help, and I want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.

If you already own notebooks 1-2 then you know those notebooks include 25 passages covering the topics listed below. This add-on pack gives 4 activities related to each of those same topics. Those four activities are: vocabulary list, crossword puzzle/answer key, newspaper writing prompt, Tell it in 2 topic review activity (like a ticket out the door)

Once again, you will need the passage from notebooks 1-2 to complete these activities. I apologize for repeating this, but I just want to make sure buyers are aware before they buy this. :-)

In the notebooks 1-2, there are also teacher questions and a flippable notebooking activity for each passage.

As mentioned in the description of notebooks 1-2, I used the Georgia social studies standards to guide me in choosing the topics covered. All of the topics are history though, so they are not limited to only Georgia. They should be suitable for any state that covers the same topics in their standards. BUT, if you are a 4th grade teacher in Georgia, these will flow nicely with the standards you are required to teach.

What does this add-on pack include?

Vocabulary: One activity in this pack is the ‘key terms/vocabulary’. There are a total of 25 key term sheets that go along with the topics covered in the 25 passages found in my social studies notebooks 1-2 bundle (sold separately). Students can glue these into their notebooks before you begin studying the topic or anytime throughout the studies. They can also add other key terms that come up in your studies by writing them on the same page directly into their notebook. You can use these terms as an introduction to the lesson by finding out what your students know about each word or phrase. These words could also be used as part of their newspaper writing activity that is also included in this pack. They can refer to it when doing their newspaper article. You can incorporate the terms into your studies however you would like.

Comprehension Crossword Puzzles and Answer keys: The crossword puzzles are used in conjunction with the coordinating reading passage from notebooks 1-2 (sold separately). There are 25 crossword puzzles in this pack, and each one is used with a passage from notebooks 1-2. For example, to use the Native Americans crossword in this pack, students will need to have read the Native Americans passage from Notebook #1. You can have your students glue the crossword in their notebook or simply use it as a separate worksheet that they turn in. If you want them to glue it into their notebook, just fold it in half and put glue under one of the halves. If it’s glued in their notebook, they would then unfold it to go back and review later in the year. You could also hold off on using this until state testing time to review. A bonus to having students turn it in is that you can take a grade.

Newspaper Writing Prompt: These 25 writing prompt activities are a way incorporate/review writing skills within social studies, as well as find out what students have learned about the topic. These are ½ page sheets that can be glued into their interactive notebooks, or you can have them turn in to display on a bulletin board. Because this is a prompt, some information is already included on the newspaper sheet. I have given each newspaper a name related to the topic. I have then given a title to the newspaper article. For example, for the one related to Native Americans, students will write a short article about Native Americans settling in different areas. They can use the vocabulary list provided in this pack to trigger thoughts. Maybe they start by saying, “Native Americans crossed over the land bridge as they made their way to the Northwestern part of North America.”……. And then continue with the article. There is also an illustration box.

Tell it in 2 Activities: ******IMPORTANT: You WILL NEED RESOURCES IN ADDITION TO THE PASSAGE PROVIDED IN NOTEBOOKS 1-2. Even though the questions on these activities relate to the topics of the passages, the answers to some can NOT be found in the passages. My notebooks were not intended to be the only resource teachers use to cover the topics, so you are most definitely pulling in additional resources to cover the standards. You may be using library books, websites, social studies texts, videos, PowerPoints, and more. “Tell it in 2” is a way for you to easily check if students are understanding what you have been studying when you use a combination of those resources. You could use these as a ‘ticket out the door’ that you collect, as a homework/research activity, follow up to a lesson and have students glue it in their notebook, or any other ideas you can come up with. The “Picture It” memory picture is a place for students to do a quick sketch that will help them remember the topic being studied. If you have time, you may want to let students color it. Here are a couple of examples: Tell 2 rights protected by the 1st amendment, tell 2 hardships at Jamestown, tell 2 facts about George Washington, tell about the 2 terms: separation of powers and checks and balances

BONUS: As a bonus, I have included several blank maps that can be used when discussing the topics in this pack. I have also taken the time to locate maps on the internet related to the topics covered in this pack. There is a chart with the topics and the links. If you are like me and you love Liberty’s Kids, I have included links to the free videos on youtube. You can easily access the ones that go along with the topics surrounding the American Revolution. NOTE: These are bonus links, and I do not have control over whether or not the links will always work. At the time of publishing this pack, all links are active.

Please... if you ever notice anything in my passages/activities that needs to be corrected, such as factual information, please send me a message before you rate the product. I do my best to research thoroughly and provide historical facts. I can look back over and have a new copy uploaded fairly quickly.

Also, if you notice typos or anything else, that is appreciated too. Even with several sets of eyes looking over my work, at times a word can be missed. Thanks so much ahead of time.

I appreciate each and every person that supports my love of creating fun activities.
