Social Studies Interactive Notebook
- Historical Figure phone flippables for your notebooks. They are blank on the inside so you can choose the writing assignment.
Even thought I designed these to compliment social studies interactive notebooks, they do not have to be used in the notebooks. If you don't use interactive notebooks in your classroom, you can simply use the selfie phone as a mini writing assignment to have students reflect on a person, place, event, etc.
UPDATE: I now offer this in my MEGA SS bundle
If you are like me, you are always looking for fun and engaging social studies activities. With this pack of social studies interactive notebook pages, I have combined the old with the new. I have taken the selfie of today and teamed it up with the historical figures of yesterday. It’s just a fun way to get the kids’ attention, hopefully encourage them to write, while also adding a cute flappable to their social studies notebooks.
This pack includes over 60 historical figures. Each one is pictured with a ‘selfie’ type image on the front of the phone. The phones can be printed two ways: blank pages on the inside with no lines or pages with lines. A page of lines is included and is designed to line up with the inside of the phone if you choose to copy them that way.
These little blank selfie flippables are a great way to integrate writing with your social studies. You could even use them as a language arts center activity.
The social studies selfies were designed to be used in a variety of ways. You are to choose the assignment for how you want them to fill the inside. For example, when reading about Cesar Chavez, maybe you want the students to write a brief summary of the accomplishments in his life. Maybe you want them to make a list of things they learned when reading a couple of paragraphs from their social studies book. The writing assignments are endless. Use them over and over and with anyone new you introduce. What a great way to compliment other activities in your interactive social studies notebooks.
I have marked these for 3-6, but please make sure to use your professional judgment when deciding if you think they will work for your class. They may be suitable for older kids, but I will let you take an look and make that decision.
A few things to Know
*The clip art for the historical figures came from a few different artists, so they vary in appearance. Some are more cartoonish, while others are more like portraits. It all works though. I just wanted you to know.
*On the front of each phone it has two ‘hashtags’, so there are no spaces between the words. There is a hashtag that says #socialstudiesselfie and a #name of person (no spaces between first and last name)
*The inside is BLANK. Please make sure you are aware of that before buying, :-)
The Famous Figures Included are:
Susan B. Anthony
Mary McLeod Bethune
Alexander Graham Bell
George Washington Carver
Ulysses S Grant
Lyndon B. Johnson
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Robert E. Lee
Sandra Day O’Connor
Franklin D. Roosevelt

Are you familiar with my nteractive social studies notebooks for upper elementary?
I would love for you to check out my social studies interactive reading response journal BUNDLED PACK? The bundled pack comes with my interactive notebooks 1 and 2, which includes 25 close reading passages and an interactive response journal activity for each passage. The passages take you through history starting with exploration and they continue through westward expansion. Also included in the pack are interactive activities for maps/globes and government that you can incorporate into the interactive notebook throughout the year. Click HERE for more details.
In addition, you can purchase notebook #3, which begins where notebook 2 left off, starting with the events of the Civil War. Click HERE for all of the details on notebook #3.
NOTE: Between notebooks 1-3, there are 36 close reading passages related to US History. All of the passages can be purchased separately, too. When you buy the passages individually, you will NOT get any interactive flippable activities that go with the passages. You will simply be purchasing the passage and the suggested teacher questions. It is still a wonderful resource without activities.
