Lesson Plan: Inventor Research Report
Subject: Social Studies, Language Arts
Description: This unit teaches students the process of writing a research paper while learning about an inventor. Students will also be able to evaluate and synthesize information while answering the following question: What is the most important invention in the history of the United States? While following the writing process, students will learn to use the Internet for research, a word processing program for writing and revising, and a printer for publishing their report. In a traditional classroom, this unit requires approximately 4 weeks of 40 minute class periods (plus homework time) to complete. High quality reports written by 5-8th grade students are expected to be approximately 20 pages long, not including the title page and bibliography.
