Social Studies Standards:
+ Explain the major ways groups, societies, and nations interact with one another.
+ Define regions by their human and physical characteristics.
+ Identify and use primary and secondary sources to examine the past and present.
This mini unit was so awesome. Everyone enjoyed themselves, learned a ton and resolved to take action on some of the issues learned throughout the unit.
I break students into "expert" groups to focus on one conflict, one country and work together to present and share their understanding with their classmates. Students take a Social Studies quiz at the end where they explain a conflict they learned about in an online comment posting or in-class response. - This unit is guaranteed to get students asking questions, to help each other out, to inspire action and to open the world to them.
Check out my SS Conflict Bundle for the presentation, rubric, note taking organizer, group planner and more student examples of final projects.
