This is a great idea when beginning the study of world geography. I use this with my students every year to break the ice and find out a little about them. One side is a plate they create about themselves and the other is about a place in the world they already know something about. They love sharing with each other and looking at all the plates create by the other students. It is also an engaging way for the students to work as you go through the beginning of the year paperwork and other tasks.
