This unit covers 7 lessons on the Southwest Region of the U.S. The lessons were written for special needs students with visual impairments, but can be easily modified or adapted for a wide variety of students (special needs or regular ed elementary students).
Topics cover: introduction to states in the region, the climate and animals found in the region, food, landforms & tourist attractions, industries & resources, and key events & people.
Students will not only learn about the region as a whole, but will work on researching information about an individual state found in the region. Great for learning research skills. This project lends itself well to different levels of student independence (researching on their own, with a partner, as a class).
This unit resource contains lesson plans, materials, worksheets, extension activities, and an end of unit test.
This ties well with Social Studies U. S. Geography Southwest Research Packet.
