I use this poster in my classroom to review the claim and theme for each unit. After discussing what the claim means, I then let the students decide which of the listed themes it relates to.
Not only does this poster connect claims to the themes of social studies, but the students also get a chance to review the themes and what they mean as the year progresses.
I use the bright colored circle stickers and place a sticker in the box next to each theme that we decide relates to the claim for that unit. I also found it helpful to use one color for each claim (ex: Unit 1 Claim, pink circles, Unit 2 Claim, yellow circles, etc.).
This tool has proved to be really helpful for both the students and myself, and I hope it can be just as useful in your classroom!
I display this poster in my classroom year round (I print the poster, then use a poster maker to create a poster version). I find it works best displayed somewhere that is visible to the students!
