How have I lived lo, these many years without ever hearing about brag tags? I recently discovered this genius way of celebrating kids' demonstration of target skills, and am amazed at how thrilled my summer school social skills kiddos are about earning them.
In case you're a newbie like I was, brag tags are small, colorful "awards" that kids love to collect, much like some of us might collect charms for a bracelet. Normally they're worn on a ball chain necklace so everyone else can see and admire them, but they can also be placed on a jump ring on a backpack zipper, or even on a shoelace. A brag tag commemorates an event or an achievement. In my summer school social superheroes program, that means a social skill.
Print tags on card stock, laminate, then cut apart. Punch a hole where indicated, get a necklace or jump ring for each child, and you're ready to go. Kids LOVE these.
Included are 15 brag tags covering social skills like waiting your turn, using a kind voice, apologizing, compromising, helping someone else, respecting personal space, and using "I" messages. I've provided them all on one page (in case you only have to make them for a few children), as well as 15 pages each containing multiple copies of one brag tag. Check out the thumbnails to see what I mean.
