This bundle consists of three documents that can be used with any text to result in a student-generated Socratic Seminar. The first document is an introductory handout that describes a brief history of Socratic Seminars and delineates the responsibilities and expectations of students. The second is a text-dependent question worksheet that leads students through the process of composing higher-level text-dependent questions with minimal teacher assistance. The third document is a rubric designed specifically for fishbowl-style Socratic Seminars although it can be modified as needed. This document ensures that all students are held accountable and paying attention even when they are not actively speaking. Since this bundle is more of a teaching strategy rather than content, the exact Common Core Standards you can reach with this depends to a great extent on the exact materials you use it with. It does almost always hit all of the Speaking and Listening Standards as well as the Reading Standards.
