This document provides all of the essential information (what, why, how) that students need to know prior to conducting a Socratic Seminar (for the powerpoint, see "Socratic Seminar Intro Powerpoint"). It also contains 5 tiered rubrics for students to score the speakers with. I have 8-10 "speakers" in the middle circle of desks and the rest of the students in the outer circle of desks observing them with these rubrics. There is also an online reflection form that I require all students to complete (See "Socratic Seminar Google Form Reflection").
Start with Rubric 1 - use for a couple of rounds. Then, move on to rubric 2. Each advanced rubric requires more from the students than the last - some "advanced" criteria moves into the "proficient" and it requires students to perform more of the requirements in order to maintain the score they want.
