PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Assessing Socratic seminar can often be tricky, but with this bundle of five seminar rubrics, you'll be able to confidently score students on their performance. This bundle includes quick and easy rubrics with no more than five criteria on each. I have the students self-assess, and then I score them on the same rubric, providing feedback as needed.
Here's a snapshot of each rubric:
Lower level self-assessment 1: 12 points, 4 criteria. This rubric is great for lower grade levels (7th or 8th grade), but it can easily be used for grades 9-12. Students are asked to write on the back the grade they believe they have earned, citing two reasons why. There are two rubrics on one page to save paper.

Lower level self-assessment 2: 15 points, 5 criteria. This rubric is great for lower grade levels (7th or 8th grade), but it can easily be used for grades 9-12. Students are asked to write on the back the grade they believe they have earned, citing two reasons why. There are two rubrics on one page to save paper.

Seminar self-assessment with personal goal: 20 points, 4 criteria. This rubric is great for all grade levels (7-12). It's quick and easy to use, and it asks students to write a goal for future seminars. There are three rubrics on one page to save paper, but you could give each student the one page with three rubrics to record three seminars; this way, the student can see their previous goals and scores to better assess their improvement.

Higher level self-assessment with connections: 20 points, 4 criteria. This is a great rubric for grades 9-12. This is the perfect rubric for a discussion that is based on more than one text, as it assesses how well students can connect texts to self, other texts, and the world. There are two rubrics on one page to save paper.

Higher level self-assessment without connections: 20 points, 4 criteria. This is a great rubric for grades 9-12. This rubric is very similar to the higher level self-assessment with connections. Instead of assessing connections, it assesses how familiar students are with the text. This rubric is helpful when you've spent several days on a text. There are two rubrics on one page to save paper.
