Speaking and Listening Skills Standards Based No Prep
1. SOCRATIC SEMINAR SCRIPTS
3 scripts – 2 pages each
4 characters each, including Socrates
1 Worksheet (corresponds to all scripts)
1 Rubric for student use
Use sheet protectors, so each two-page script fits into one sheet protector, front and back. You can highlight each part beforehand, or you can have students highlight their own parts, just like professional actors. They can use dry erase markers to answer the worksheet questions right on the script itself. When they’re through, they can erase using dryer sheets.
2. “THINK ABOUT IT” (A Card Game)
There are three sets of cards; two are simple and one (optional) is more advanced. The card game does have rules, but I find the students can simply play all their cards and they’re not too concerned with “winning” or “losing.”
Provide a small group (4-6 players) with cards, topic sheet (or provide your own topic), and instructions. Let them take it from there.
