Over the years, I have found class discussion to be my most powerful tool to analyze text. That being said, few students know how to have an academic conversation and thus need structure to do it well. So, find the only two worksheets you’ll need to turn ordinary class discussion into Socratic Seminar. The first provides academic language stems for those students engaged in discussion. The second allows their classmates to score the quality of the conversation and provide meaningful feedback.
And, if you’ve found this useful, check out the other materials I’ve posted, particularly my slowly expanding universe of Shakespeare units.
