This Socratic seminar preparation sheet will help students prepare their thinking and questions before jumping in. This form is set up for a three-group (or three source) fishbowl-style seminar, where each group takes turns discussing a different topic or source, with each student participating in the center once, and listening in and taking notes on the other two rounds. At the end, students take a few minutes to reflect on what they learned/heard, and to self-evaluate their contributions, as well as set goals for next time. Preparation before a seminar is invaluable, as it gives all students the opportunity to reflect and gather their evidence and thinking, as well as writing authentic questions, before the discussion begins. Great for shy kids and running-of-the-mouth students alike! Pair this form with the question-writing how-to form, and students will be off and running towards being in the driver's seat of their learning.
