Since we have to keep the students distanced as much as possible, this will take the place of the soft-start tubs in my classroom. It may not be the perfect solution but the kids will have fun! That is all that matters to me!

Each day, the students will grab their Soft-Start Journal and go to a number (1-10) that they haven’t been to yet. These number cards will be hanging around the room. They will complete the task on the card in their journal. Every two weeks, the teacher will place another set of 1-10 cards around the room for the students to complete. This is a creative way to do Soft Start while keeping our distance in order to stay healthy.

Instructions for Set-Up:

(It is so easy and pictures are included in the product AND the preview.)

  • Glue the SOFT START Journal Edition page to the front of a composition notebook.
  • Glue the Student instruction page to the first page of the composition notebook.
  • Place the cards in page protectors and hang them around the room (1-10.)
  • The page protectors make the cards easy to switch out every two weeks. Just slide one card out and slide another one in.
  • Some cards will look silly! That is what makes this fun! The students will go to a number, read the task, then go to their seat, the floor, or flexible seating to complete the task in their journal.

That's it! No more trying to figure out what the students do when they walk into class.

Also, not all tasks are writing. There is drawing, math, science, social studies, exercise, poetry, treasure maps, etc. The students can start on whatever number they want and rotate around. I set it up like this so that all students are not at Number 1. We want to keep 2-3 students at each number to stay healthy. Also, they read the card then go somewhere else to complete the task!

200 Cards Included.

PLEASE LOOK AT THE PREVIEW FOR MORE PICTURES! Also, follow me on Instagram and check out my highlights in my stories for a demonstration of this product. :)

Printable and Digital Versions Included. NOTE: The Digital Version is NOT editable. It is digital because it can be assigned in Google Classroom as Google Slides. Students will need a Journal still even if doing this through distance learning. Also, if you do not want to hang these up in the classroom, you can put this version on the projector every morning for your students. When opening the digital version, you will see a Google Drive Link; that is the digital version. Please click to access the Google Slides version.
