Product Description
Soil Layers Recipe - Functional Text FREEBIE

I use this in my third grade class. It can be used as a language arts or science lesson. We study functional texts, such as recipes and our science unit focuses on soil - so this hit both of those areas.

I bought all ingredients listed on the recipe prior to the lesson. In class, students read through the directions first. We discussed how to read a the directions, where to start and why the steps are numbered, etc. Then I handed out the materials and we all went through each direction step by step, to create our Layers of Soil dirt cup - of course, digging in at the end!

We then watched Diary of a Worm on TumbleBooks, but you could also do a read aloud.

Standards Addressed: VA SOL Science 3.7, LA 3.6
