PROCEEDS BENEFIT "REACH INC."-EMPOWERING ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES
-Southern Science Specialists - Chapel Hill, North Carolina-
A tutorial and identification activity in which students define and differentiate between soils and soil layers. Kids have a lot of fun with this. Content covered in this lesson includes:
Soil Designation Properties
Soil Comprehension Questions
Soil Layers – O layer, A layer, E layer, B layer, C layer, and Bedrock
Contains questions and Velcro or cut and paste activities. Answers are color-coded. This assignment can easily pair with a lab in which actual local soil samples can be introduced as a hands-on application.
This works well for any level but is GREAT for special education students or college prep learners that need an alternative assessment and may not be great at traditional labs.
Also, perfect for homeschooling!
This has been used as a pre-class, lab/activity, study guide, review, and assessment. This is an effective teaching tool one on one, in small groups, and as a class when using a Smart Board/Promethean Board/Projection.
A guaranteed hit all around!
A great addition to your geology teaching library.
Within the classroom this activity was consistently very successful and acclaimed by students in 8th grade college prep classes, 8th grade honors science classes, and various special education classes.
Applicable to many state science assessments and benchmarks.
Has been applied to state mandated North Carolina end of year tests for science in grades 5 and 8.
